When my son turned 2 we were traveling in Brazil. By then he had already travelled to Austria, Germany, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore and Switzerland. He had no birthday cake for his second anniversary but he enjoyed his first coconut water on Ipanema beach. And he was happy!

Traveling with children can feel a bit overwhelming, undoubtedly is more complicated and some parents decide not to travel all together to avoid the trouble. 

In my opinion, there is no reason not to travel with your kids. With good preparation, you will find that seeing the world through their eyes is exhilarating and you will have a lot of fun together. Children develop new skills when exploring new places and activities; even though they may be too young to remember, the experiences they go through make an impact on them.

One of the many reasons why parents find traveling with children a burden is because they expect to be able to do the same things they used to do before. It will take some years until that becomes possible again. 

The key to trouble-less holidays with kids is preparing for the unexpected and having the right expectations.
